News Reports Say Many More Microsoft Layoffs on the Way, Rumours Say Red Hat Also Imminently a Target

posted by Roy Schestowitz on May 09, 2024

Microsoft is slipping (or spinning) out of control and it is now pursuing (once again) President Biden for political and financial bailouts - we're omitting the links as they portray bribery as an "investment" - i.e. the same old and typically misleading propaganda from fake 'journalism' outlets that are in fact a Public Relations apparatus.

Yesterday we wrote about Microsoft's latest shutdowns and layoffs in Africa and even more shutdowns and layoffs in studios [1, 2]. There are reports everywhere - more than we keep abreast of - and there are now several reports saying more Microsoft layoffs are on the way (many links about it will be supplied in the next batch of Daily Links).

What about IBM? Well, it seems like the layoff/redundancy/RA plans for Red Hat are still ongoing. It's like an "open secret".

"I believe Mr Thomas left a few words off of his statement No Layoffs for the new golden child Hashicorp is true," this comment said yesterday. "BUT layoffs for the mature “ex” golden child Redhat are certainly in the plan."

More interesting were the following comments, which include: "From a comment posted on the Kyndryl board, here's the particulars on the WARN notice: IBM hasn't actually pulled the trigger on it yet. They only filed an intent of notice to use a WARN."

This links to another thread: "I see IBM filed a W.A.R.N with the state of North Carolina. That only means one thing. IBM is going to be laying off a ton of its workforce sorry ( rebalancing ). This means we should expect Kyndryl to follow suit. I fully expect they will. We are still their shadow company. Heck we can't even seem to separate ourselves physically. We are still firmly parked in Triangle Research Park. It really is a bad look for us."

Further down it says: "I see initially, IBM filed an intent to give notice for use of W.A.R.N. The notice was put on hold so right now IBM has not pulled that trigger. (Workers Adjustment and Retaining Notification) This really is no protection for workers, its more for the state's benefit. It's also a way to shame a company in the public eye. I worry about that bridge when I cross it."

The official Workers Adjustment and Retaining Notification laws makes it seem rather plausible, but that's just hearsay for now. Updates can be seen in the official page.
